Terms of Service
Last Updated: April 13, 2025
Welcome to AFKonIRC. You probably already get what this is. But we still need to lay out some ground rules—just in case you’re new, or you’re a lawyer, or both.
1. Using the Site
No account is needed to browse or submit quotes. You can create one if you want—it's optional. If you do, you’ll get a nice little dashboard and email updates when your quotes are approved. That’s it. No algorithms. No tracking. Just a basic old-school experience with some new-school polish.
Moderators are volunteers who review submissions. They don’t work for a corporation. They’re here to keep things fun and weird, not to babysit.
2. Submitting Content
By submitting a quote, you agree that:
- You have the right to share it.
- It doesn’t contain private info, doxxing, or hateful garbage.
- It’s not spam or autogenerated sludge.
You keep the rights to your words, but you give us permission to display, archive, and show them publicly forever (or until the heat death of the universe).
3. Behavior Rules
- No harassment, hate speech, or bigotry.
- No gaming votes, flooding the system, or scraping the site like a vacuum cleaner.
- Don’t try to break anything. If you do, we’ll rate-limit or block you quietly and without ceremony.
4. Accounts
If you choose to make a user account (not required), we’ll store your email, a hashed password, and an IRC nickname. It’s just used to:
- Show your submitted quotes
- Notify you if one gets approved
- Let you reset your password
That’s it. We don’t sell, track, or analyze you. This isn’t that kind of party. We don't even show your nickname publicly (except to moderators).
Moderators have the same account structure, with some added tools for reviewing and managing quotes.
5. Moderation
Moderators approve, reject, and occasionally remove quotes. Their decisions are final. They are not judges. They are not perfect. They are doing this because they care.
Flagged quotes may be reviewed. That doesn’t guarantee action. Use the flag tool respectfully.
6. Copyright
If you see something on this site that shouldn’t be here, contact us and we’ll look into it.
This project exists for love, not profit. Please extend the same generosity when dealing with us.
7. Liability
This site is presented as-is. We’re not responsible if:
- Something here offends you.
- You lose sleep scrolling old quotes.
- Your internet breaks while voting.
We also can’t be held responsible for technical issues, data loss, or random acts of entropy.
This is a labor of love. Expect occasional weirdness. Use it at your own risk.
8. Changes
We’ll update these terms if things change. You’ll see a note if it’s important. If you keep using the site, you’re agreeing to the new rules.
